At the start of this month, Oreo announced it was collaborating with The Pokémon Company to create adorable limited-edition cookies depicting some of the characters.
Just like the lovable Pokémon themselves, some cookie designs are rarer than others. Yes, 16 Pokémon are included in this collaboration, but that doesn’t mean all 16 would turn up in the snack bag.

Mew, one of the characters featured on the cookies, is famously rare in the game series. Usually, only one is in each game, as opposed to other more common Pokémon. And it’ll be notoriously difficult to capture in a Pokéball.
So to reflect this, the Mew cookies aren’t easy to get your hands on, either. And, like most other things, with rarity comes value.
Hence the eBay listings: a cookie depicting the ultra-rare Pokémon is seeing prices reach all the way up to five-figured sums. Yup. Sorry, Alola-form Raichu. Cookie-form is the new thing now, apparently.
In addition to this, there are lots of “watchers” on some of these listings, indicating that people are still interested in placing bids despite the already high pricing for a single cookie.
It’s safe to say that most collectors aren’t exactly planning to chomp down on these thousand-dollar Oreos if and when they get their hands on them. But Oreos, like many foods, don’t exactly tend to last forever, either.
What does one do with a US$10,000 Mew-printed sandwich cookie?
