In the heat of product rollouts, Apple took a step back from touting the latest devices to pay respects to co-founder Steve Jobs, who passed away 10 years ago on October 5, 2011.
In a rare and thoughtful move, the tech giant transformed its homepage—where promotional imagery normally resides—into a commemoration page for Jobs, who in no doubt was a driving force in taking it to where it is today.
Set to a black and white color scheme, the page “celebrating Steve” includes a short film “narrated” by the late Apple chairman through some of his most stirring quotes. CEO Tim Cook also shared the video on social media, and you can view it in his tweet below.

Much of the homepage’s space is designated to Jobs’ family members, who have left a touching statement expressing that his “gifts” still live with them today.
“Each of us has found his or her own path to consolation, but we have come together in a beautiful place of love for Steve, and for what he taught us,” his family writes.
“For all of Steve’s gifts, it was his power as a teacher that has endured,” they detail. “He taught us to be open to the beauty of the world, to be curious around new ideas, to see around the next corner, and most of all to stay humble in our own beginner's mind.”
In their healing, they found that connecting with beauty brought them closer in spirit to the Apple co-founder. “One of our greatest sources of consolation has been our association of Steve with beauty. The sight of something beautiful — a wooded hillside, a well‑made object — recalls his spirit to us. Even in his years of suffering, he never lost his faith in the beauty of existence.”
“He gave us equipment for living, and it has served us well.”
They close their message by saying that Jobs is still dearly missed. “We miss him profoundly. We were blessed to have him as husband and father.”
The commemoration coincides with a letter written by former Apple design chief Jony Ive for Jobs, who penned on the Wall Street Journal, “I think about Steve every day.”
