Ever since IKEA started all the way back in the 1950s, its countless home furnishings have graced dorm rooms, first apartments, and forever homes.
However, have you ever stopped to think how the Swedish manufacturer’s unique designs differ from decade to decade?
Well, now you don’t have to imagine. Household Quotes dug up IKEA’s catalogs from over the last 70 years, and condensed each decade’s design aesthetic into a living room representative of every era. Each image showcases some of the most iconic furniture of that decade, and its estimated cost in today’s terms.
Surprisingly, the current decade (2020s) has been the cheapest time to buy a full set of furniture at an average of US$1,112, while the 2010s and 1990s were the most expensive at US$2,806 and US$2,086 respectively.
Take a look at the interior design over the past century, and who knows, you may just be inspired to pick up a vintage piece for your new home.
