Ever made your way through a bustling airport only to find yourself in an hours-long queue for a cab back home? Now, Uber is extending its Uber Reserve feature to over 20 airports across the US, so you can book your ride in advance.
In cities such as New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington DC, you’ll be able to arrange pickups up to 30 days in advance. And even if your plane is delayed, it’s alright. Uber said it’ll track flight information and automatically adjust your reservation if needed. Plus, the driver will wait for up to 60 minutes at no additional costs.
Other than the reserve function, the ride-hailing firm said it’s also making improvements to its curbside pickup function. It’s making use of artificial and machine intelligence to pre-empt high demand, so more drivers can be dispatched for passengers waiting by the road.
This demand-based initiative will be rolled out worldwide, with it already in effect at 13 US airports, Heathrow Airport in London, and Pearson Airport in Toronto, to name a few.
Soon, Uber Eats plans to join the game, too. The company is testing a feature that’ll allow passengers to pre-order food at airport restaurants, so they’ll be ready to go once they’ve landed. For now, it’s only on trial at Pearson Airport in Toronto, but Uber has plans to expand it stateside soon.
Integrating air and ground travel seems like the obvious next step in creating seamless transportation services. Hopefully, you’ll be able to spot your driver amid the large crowd, though!
