If Burger King is your favorite fast-food joint, get ready. You’ll soon be able to get a taste of Impossible Foods’ new “chicken” nuggets, starting this week.
Customers will be able to order an eight-piece set of the plant-based nuggets at select outlets in Des Moines, Iowa, Boston, Massachusetts, and Miami.
Foodies will also get to choose their preferred dipping sauce to pair with the nuggets, which are made of soy protein, sunflower oil, and a blend of delicious herbs. In fact, in a blind taste test, 74% of omnivorous customers apparently said they preferred the faux chicken nuggets to real meat.
Taste aside, these nuggets are probably a lighter choice if you do choose to grab some junk food. The company says they’re made with 40% less saturated fat and contain 25% less sodium than usual meat offerings.
However, as Engadget points out, these nuggets, while made from plants, may not be vegan, as Burger King could fry them in the same oil as other meat and dairy products. This could be a sticking point for those who are fully plant-based.
“In 2019, we became the first quick-service restaurant to serve the award-winning, plant-based Impossible patty, and offer the iconic Impossible Whopper. So, its’s only fitting we’re the first global QSR to test the Impossible Nuggets,” said Burger King’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ellie Doty.
Hopefully, if these nuggets are here to stay, the fast-food restaurant will come up with a way to make them 100% vegan-friendly, too.
