McDonald’s might sound like the perfect choice for inexpensive grub, but there are some items in its menu that are probably better off ordering from a posher place. A visual rundown from Expensivity, which specializes in comparing prices across the world, brings these bougie meals to light.
As it turns out, the priciest item you can order off a McDonald’s menu is Lebanon’s Grand Chicken Special, priced at US$27.19. Feel like putting on your fancy-schmancy, supersized clown pants that day? Try scarfing down France and Monaco’s Signature Charolais & Sauce Aux 2 Moutardes (US$14.38), Israel’s Mega Tokyo burger (US$13.48), and Norway’s Dobbel Big Tasty Bacon (US$13.36) too.
Economists often rely on a ‘Big Mac Index’—where prices of the universal Big Mac are pitted against each other—to track price changes and currency differences around the world. Lebanon’s Big Mac once again comes out tops at US$21.89 per burger, while Russia’s is the most bang-for-your-buck at only US$1.94. Still, that’s a drastic difference from the mere 15-cent price of the original hamburger from 1948.
Expensivity has expanded on this concept and included prices for French fries and Happy Meals all over the world, too. See how your country’s McDonald’s menu fares (pun unintended) against another’s in its full report here.
