Following the announcement of new social media platform TRUTH Social, former US President Donald Trump is now rumored to be looking to trademark other “truth” keywords.
According to a report by Mother Jones, intellectual property rights attorney Holly Collins filed a series of applications earlier this month, and it doesn’t just stop at “Truth Social.”
Other phrases submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office included “truthing,” “post a truth,” “retruth,” and “follow the truth.”
While it’s anyone’s guess what any of those words mean, it’s not a surprising move from Trump, who has been known to fancy registering trademarks. As per Gizmodo, he previously filed hundreds of applications like “Trump Class,” “Trumpnet,” “Tour de Trump,” and “Trump Power,” though none of these have made it into the popular lexicon.
One of the trademarks, “TMTG,” is a clue to the next Trump-branded venture. It’s the acronym for Trump Media and Technology Group, which according to HuffPost, will be merging with the Digital Acquisitions Group.
It’s speculated that there are plans for the firm to launch an entertainment and news streaming service that could be worth up to US$1.7 billion.
From a quick look at the company’s site, it appears the service promises viewers a network championing “open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”
As vague as that sounds, it seems the offering will include “non-woke” versions of Netflix and Disney+, news programs to rival that of CNN, and of course, TRUTH Social—whose backbone has been revealed to be a clone of an open-source social media network.
The future doesn’t look too bright for Trump’s new media conglomerate, however, with Digital World’s IPO prospectus stating: “We have neither engaged in any operations nor generated any revenues to date. Our only activities since inception have been organizational activities and those necessary to prepare for this offering.”
No revenue to date but creating a billion-dollar media empire? If you’re confused, you aren’t the only one. Guess we’ll just have to wait for the launch of TMTG and the former President’s new media ventures to gain further insight into his plans for a “non-woke” media landscape.
