There are more ways to celebrate 2021’s defining Netflix series,
Squid Game, than just green tracksuits, red hoodies, and
white Vans. The streaming giant hawks its own
official merchandise via its
online store, but it has upped the stakes with even cooler streetwear inspired by the South Korean thriller drama.
The striking collection was dreamed up by contemporary Emotionally Unavailable, co-founded by KyuBum Lee and Edison Chen, and centers around
Red Light, Green Light and the dalgona honeycomb candy challenge. Motifs from these childhood games are emblazoned across long- and short-sleeved T-shirts, hoodies, and hats.
Emotionally Unavailable’s logo of a dripping heart is fitting for the show’s imagery, “melting” against the sugary candy’s shapes, recalling Gi-hun’s licking of the treat to neatly cut a shape out; and dripping along with the text “Squid Game,” as if a game had ended in bloodshed. In one version, the brand’s symbol is depicted as a dalgona shape.
“Working with a show that supported and represented Korean culture and heritage has been very important to me,” details co-founder KyuBum Lee in a statement published by
Highsnobiety. “
Red Light, Green Light was one of my favorite games as a kid.”
The street merchandise can now be pre-ordered on
Netflix.shop.
