Sitting in a cramped plane seat for a long period of time can’t be good for anyone’s anatomy. Plus, it’s probably the reason why many people don’t associate the concept of a long-haul flight with something “relaxing” and “mindful.”
Peloton is hoping to change this in a new partnership with Delta Air Lines, bringing some of its fitness classes to the inflight entertainment systems in a program it calls ‘Classes in the Clouds’.
Five stretching and meditation classes are being produced exclusively for Delta Air Lines passengers, and this will be the first time the fitness company will be working outside its own products.
“It gives us the chance for people that aren’t Peloton members about this accessibility and that we have the best fitness content in the world,” Jen Cotter, Peloton’s chief content officer, tells CNN Business. She also states that she’s “surprised” when people don’t realize that the brand offers fitness classes that aren’t to do with biking or running, which is what its machines are known for.
Apart from stretching and meditation, like the initial ones being produced for Delta, the company also offers classes covering strength training, yoga, and outdoor running and walking classes. While these are popular among app members, the company realizes that not many outside of this circle are aware that they even exist.
The classes produced for Delta passengers, ranging from between five to 20 minutes each, will be refreshed every few months. So, even repeat passengers and frequent flyers will be able to enjoy new content periodically.
This collaboration isn’t the only thing Peloton is using to enter the playing field of the travel industry. Recently, the company launched a new website that helped travelers locate hotels that have Peloton equipment. This comes alongside a new collection of classes on its app, Made for Travel.
With the expansion of its products and services to different areas, the company is hoping to “attract new members who might be turned off because they think its products are exclusively for the wealthy,” CNN reports.
Since the company had to recall Tread+ machines earlier this year due to fatal safety hazards, it hasn’t been faring too well: CNN Business notes that its shares are down around 40% for the year. Perhaps this world-touring exposure—and the recruitment of new fitness fanatics—will help to turn things around.
