Nike seems to be stepping foot in the metaverse, according to trademark registration attempts made at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on October 27. The sportswear giant could join brands like Facebook’s Meta and non-fungible token (NFT) creators in delivering merchandise in the virtual world.
Bloomberg reported that four requests were made to safeguard Nike’s branding for “downloadable virtual goods” and more in virtual environments. Trademark attorney Josh Gerben disclosed more details on Twitter, describing that the marks include “NIKE,” “JUST DO IT,” and the Swoosh logo.

An excerpt of the document shared by Gerben shows that these trademarks might appear on “online, non-downloadable virtual footwear, clothing, headwear, eyewear… [and] accessories for use in virtual environments.”
Potential digital products that Nike might retail include “bags, sports bags, backpacks, sports equipment, art, toys,” the filing says.
Well, “just do it” sounds about right.
