Microsoft Revives ‘Clippy’ With Less Meddling But The Same Eager Vengeance

Rapid, impressive developments in technology over the last few years have given rise to pretty powerful virtual assistants, pretty much indispensable in today’s hectic life. Siri, Alexa, and Cortina are some names that come to mind. Even “Hey, Wendy” exists now.
But we mustn’t forget the true trailblazer, the “the true OG virtual assistant” that its creators admit was “just a bit ahead of its time”: Clippy.
First introduced to Microsoft Office apps in 1996 before being zapped again in 2001, some may look back on the animated paperclip with fond nostalgia of a bygone era, while others instead wince at the memories of its persistent eagerness and grating politeness at wanting to help with absolutely everything.
If you fall in the former category, you may be pleased to know that Clippy—given name Clippit—is making a comeback in the form of a retro sticker pack in Microsoft Teams, as confirmed by an official comment in the Teams forum.
These stickers can be found in the toolbar under the chat window in the main Teams app, with the Clippy name and familiar icon displayed in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the popup window. Alternatively, a search for “Clippy” in the bar on top of the window will also bring the stickers up.
That’s not all. If distance has indeed made the heart grow fonder, and users find themselves wanting more Clippy in their Teams life, there is also a stunning portrait of this iconic paperclip as part of Microsoft’s nostalgic backgrounds for Teams calls.
