Festive advertisements have the reputation for being charmingly heartwarming. After all, on colder and shorter days, anything warm and “aww”-worthy is bound to be welcomed with open arms.
John Lewis may be one of the first names that comes to mind upon thinking of touching advertisements come this time of year, but it’s certainly not the only brand with a cozy campaign this year. Heritage brand Barbour has tapped a very familiar character to help deliver this year’s festive campaign: Paddington Bear. And where Paddington goes, of course, his iconic hat, duffle coat, and penchant for marmalade will follow.

This fully animated spot showcases the original 1958 Peggy Fortnum illustration style, which is being animated for the first time ever thanks to production company Passion Pictures.

Over 3,000 hours were poured into the animations for this advertisement, drawing upon the bear’s original designs and hand-drawn and hand-painted down to the last 2D detail. Directed by Against All Odds, the short film was then put together in its totality in TV Paint and After Effects.
The nostalgic tale, titled Please Look After This Bear, follows the story of our lovable character out on a mission to re-wax Mr Brown’s well-loved, well-worn Barbour jacket.

“The story is very close to our hearts here at Barbour (especially during our 100th year of re-waxing), as it highlights the fondness people feel for their beloved jackets and the memories it evokes from the times it was worn,” the brand explains of the film.
In support of the campaign, Barbour is also launching a children’s collection of jersey sweats, hoodies, and nightwear. It’s all Paddington Bear-themed, of course, and feature delightful illustrations by Peggy Fortnum.

This sentimental short film “tells the story of how, with a little bit of kindness, you can make yours last for many Christmases to come with annual re-waxing, alongside how much a thoughtful gift can mean in the season of goodwill,” Barbour concludes.
