Just because gyms are beginning to open again doesn’t necessarily mean death to the home workout, and Peloton is keen to set this fact in stone with its latest product: the AI-powered ‘Peloton Guide’.
Taking on the role of sort of a personal trainer, the Peloton Guide connects to televisions to provide members with “a guided strength training experience from the comfort of home.”
Yes, those with gym anxiety, it’s your time to shine.
It looks almost like a small webcam, which can sit comfortably on top of a console when connected to the television. No special equipment is required to use it; users can continue to train with their own accessories and weights.

Some of its features include a Movement Tracker, which utilizes machine learning and a camera to monitor users’ movements. This will not only “teach” the AI new material, but it’ll also feed back to the user to teach them how to improve their form, for example.

Self-Mode will see the camera being used to project the user’s own image on the screen next to the instructor in real-time, making sure that each movement is done correctly for optimal training and minimal injury risk.
Alongside this, Body Activity will show users which muscle groups were recently worked and recommend classes that target the muscle groups that need more training. So no, leg day cannot be skipped—accidentally or not.
In terms of privacy, users will also be able to turn the device on and off depending on usage and retain full control over their data, the company promises. Besides just putting it to sleep, there’s also a cover for the camera and a physical switch to turn the microphone off.

Expert instructors from Peloton will be creating and uploading new classes and content regularly, and this will in turn be enhanced by the AI’s ability to gather feedback from both trainer and trainee.
“We combined our world-class Instructors and class content with the best machine learning technology to create a whole new way to train,” explains Tom Cortese, Peloton’s co-founder and chief product officer. “This is just the beginning for Peloton strength. Guide will keep getting smarter so it can grow stronger alongside our Members.”
Priced at US$495, which is bundled with the Peloton Heart Rate Band, it’s the company’s most affordable hardware product yet. For non-members, a Guide membership, priced at US$12.99 per month, is required to use the device and access content.
The Peloton Guide will be available in early 2022 for customers in the US and Canada, with more regions such as the UK and Australia following later on in the year.
