Movie theater chain AMC and Sony Pictures are spinning into the sticky web of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the much-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home.
If you’re a collector of digital collectibles and haven’t seen the appeal for booking film tickets way in advance, here’s something that might change your mind. The pair will be giving away 86,000 NFTs to people who pre-order No Way Home tickets when early sales become available on November 29, ahead of the movie’s release on December 16. This privilege is extended to members of Stubs Premiere, A-List and Investor Connect.
While not much is known about the kinds of artwork to expect, AMC discloses in a press release that the collection will feature 100 unique designs by award-winning animation studio Cub Studios.
Interested filmgoers can book their tickets via the AMC Theatres website or app, and if all 86,000 NFTs haven’t been given away, they’ll receive a redemption code on December 22 that they can use by March 1, 2022.
The collectibles rely on Worldwide Asset eXchange (WAX), a certified carbon-neutral blockchain that is said to be more energy-efficient than Ethereum and Bitcoin in its mining.
Given the hype set up for the forthcoming Spider-Man film, the offer applies only for showings for December 16 in the United States. Find out more here.
