A&W Takes On Rivals McDonald’s, Popeyes With ‘Anti-Celebrity Meals’

While other fast-food giants have been searching far and wide for their next celebrity collaboration, A&W’s ambassadors are a little closer to home. For its latest recruitment campaign, the burger and root beer chain has dreamed up “anti-celebrity meals.”
The new visuals, designed by Kentucky marketing consultancy COOMER, boldly shun a growing trend in the industry that sees rivals developing limited-edition meals with celebrities. McDonald’s, for instance, created meals inspired by Travis Scott, BTS, and Saweetie—and, in time for the festive season, Mariah Carey. Meanwhile, Popeyes partnered up with its first celebrity collaborator, Megan Thee Stallion, in October.

The Anti-Celebrity Meals initiative places photos of actual A&W employees from Kentucky alongside lookalike marketing images from competing brands to honor “the people who keep A&W running” amid a labor shortage crisis in the fast-food market. The staffers are even posed with customized food boxes with their names on them.
As well as announcing that the company is recruiting, A&W hopes to highlight the faces behind its success.
“Unlike other chains, we don’t need movie and music stars,” the brand notes. “We’ve got our fave celebs right here in our restaurants.”
