With young audiences getting more in touch with spirituality, Google is surprisingly dabbling in the occult and has launched its own tarot deck, or, more specifically, ‘tARot’ cards.
The campaign might be a way to conjure up attention for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphones, but make no mistake about how far the company would go to live its spiritual truth. The deck consists of 78 Major Arcana and Minor Arcana cards, all thoughtfully and elaborately designed to reflect elements of the Pixel 6 phones.
The cards have their own 93-page tarot guidebook, created using Google Slides. Here, you can print and cut out all the designs to set up your own deck, learn how to read your future, and find out the meaning behind each card.
The book is to be paired with a special Instagram AR filter called the ‘tARot randomizer’, which designates a card for the user.
The effort invested into this project is insane, especially when you think about how these remixes of ancient cards are tied to Google Pixel 6 features. ‘The Fool’ card, for instance, shows a character setting out into the unknown (in line with the traditional deck), and the view shown to the reader is only possible thanks to the Ultra Wide Camera lens. The empowered ‘High Priestess’ embodies the intensive customization possibilities of the Material You Android design language.
And the oft-misunderstood ‘Death’, an actual sign of new beginnings, reminds users that they can always restart with an Adaptive Battery.
A second AR filter invites users to point their cameras at the 22 Major Arcana cards, which animates the artwork.
That’s not all. According to 9to5Google, Google even went so far as to design a physical box to store these ‘tARot’ cards.
