Samsung Is Turning Its TV Platform Into An NFT Marketplace
By Alexa Heah, 04 Jan 2022
Tapping into the blockchain hype, Samsung has unveiled a new range of SmartTVs that come with a non-fungible token aggregation platform. The new lineup will allow users to preview digital art pieces, purchase them directly, and then turn television screens into “frames” to display them.
The SmartTV will even be able to look into a user’s NFT browsing history so as to learn “who created it, to what comprises its blockchain metadata,” as per Gizmodo.
While the process of previewing, purchasing, and then displaying digital assets is rather fragmented at the moment, Samsung hopes its new innovation can help merge the entire process into a streamlined one.
Not to mention, according to Interesting Engineering, the device maker has added a feature to ensure the art is shown as the creator intended. It has configured the screen to automatically adjust its settings in order to match the artist’s preset values when NFTs are displayed.
“With demand for NFTs on the rise, the need for a solution to today’s fragmented viewing and purchasing landscape has never been greater,” said Samsung.
More details about the platform are expected to be released in the upcoming weeks, as Samsung begins shipping out its 2022 televisions and eco-friendly remotes.
