Spotify Makes ‘Car Thing’ Player Publicly Available To US Subscribers
By Alexa Heah, 23 Feb 2022
In April last year, Spotify announced it had created a smart car player that could provide listeners with hours of entertainment in the form of music, news, podcasts, and more.
The initial launch began in October, when a handful of selected users had their first go at trialing the product.
Now, Spotify is launching ‘Car Thing’ to all Premium users in the US for US$89.99.
Touted as a “seamless and personalized in-car listening experience,” the device works with vehicles of any kind.
Users can use voice commands, such as “Hey Spotify,” to switch between different songs and albums, or hit play on their favorite morning podcast on the route to work.
The full rollout sees several new features based on feedback from trial users, including ‘Night Mode’ to dim the brightness of the screen at dusk, and an ‘Add to Queue’ command so you can line up your favorite tracks one after another.
A Spotify Premium subscription plan along with a smartphone with a mobile data connection is required for the Car Thing player to work. Head here for more details.
