After the pandemic forced it to shut down, the Vagina Museum in London now has the pleasure of reopening at a new location thanks to donations from the public.
The world’s first brick-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas, and everything in between is tantalizing Londoners to “be the first to come” to its new premises in Bethnal Green, where it will reopen on March 19.
To announce its move into the neighborhood, the museum commissioned a series of witty posters acknowledging existing establishments in the area while delivering innuendo to boot.

“Mind the WAP,” one sign reads, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the London Underground network. Another depicts legs spread open to reveal a QR code that passersby can scan with their phone cameras to find out more about the museum.
The campaign, entitled Neighbours, was created pro bono by creative agency The Or London, and designer Mirjami Qin illustrated its 16 vibrant posters.
As fun as the visuals are, they’re not supposed to be provocative. Any perception of them being racy comes from years of stigma stacked against a natural part of the female body.
“Half the world has a vulva, a vagina and a clitoris—it should be normal to use these words in our everyday vernacular and be comfortable seeing them mentioned on billboards,” The Or London’s creative director Nathalie Gordon tells DesignTAXI in an email. “If anyone finds the campaign sensationalist, inappropriate or weird, it says more about them than it does the work or the museum.”
The posters will be put up for sale on the Vagina Museum’s website to help fund its facility.
