Mercedes-Benz Releases Virgil Abloh-Designed Luxury Electric Car For The Road
By Alexa Heah, 07 Apr 2022
To commemorate the inspiring legacy of Virgil Abloh, Mercedes-Benz unveiled Project MAYBACH at the end of the last year, showcasing the electric vehicle to the public for the first time at Art Basel Miami.
Now, together with a capsule collection designed by the late visionary, the automaker will be releasing a limited run of 150 vehicles as part of the collaboration with Off-White.
The Maybach by Virgil Abloh comes as a fully-equipped Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680, with a unique exterior featuring a two-tone color combination created especially for the collection.
The upper part of the car shines in a glossy obsidian black, while the lower half, side flanks, and forged rims don a rarely-seen sand hue.
Take a peek at the interior of the vehicle, and you’ll realize the color scheme continues inside. All four seats, the steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard, and ceiling are coated in black and sand nappa leather, finished with intricate décor trims.
Plus, as with most limited-edition launches, the car spots special features such as a Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo inscribed on the middle of the center console, rear cushions, head restraints, and door still panel.
If you’re one of the lucky ones to get your hands on this exceptional creation, you’ll receive a special custom-made wooden box (covered with the sand-colored nappa leather, of course) that houses a 1/18-scale replica of the car for your living room display.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work we have created in collaboration with Virgil,” said Gordon Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
“The limited-edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh exemplifies the symbiosis between innovative design and ultimate craftsmanship now available on the road.”
