Lavish Leica Camera With Gold & Ostrich-Leather Details Sets To Go Under Hammer
By Alexa Heah, 20 May 2022
Even if you’re an avid camera collector, here’s one you may never have come across: a Leica MP Unique Gold analog model born of a special collaboration between Leitz Photographica Auction and Leica Camera AG.
The usual metal components of the camera have been embellished with gold, and its grip area transformed into a luxurious material with black ostrich leather. In fact, as Robb Report noted, this Leica is so special it’s even missing the signature red-dot logo of the company, with just a hidden serial number on the back.
For photography purposes, the limited-edition model features a 0.72 finder and black Elmar-M 2.8/50mm lens, which will come in a maker’s box for the body and a certificate of authenticity.
The auction house expects the camera to go for between €16,000 (US$17,000) and €20,000 (US$21,000), though bids start from €8,000 (US$8,500).
All proceeds from the sale will go towards a nonprofit organization in Austria and Germany.
