The arrival of Apple’s rumored mixed-reality headset might be so close, you can almost touch it (pardon the attempt at an AR/VR joke). As detailed by Bloomberg tech reporter Mark Gurman, via Yanko Design, last week, executives have recently demonstrated the AR/VR product to Apple’s board of directors.
What this suggests is that Apple has a final prototype it is likely satisfied about launching. It also paves the way for a milestone for the company, as this would be the first major product created by Apple since the departure of former design chief Jony Ive, following the Apple Watch.
Sources told Gurman that the gadget was shown to eight directors and CEO Tim Cook at one of Apple’s private board meetings, which take place about quarterly.
Apple already let on to iOS beta users that it is readying a new operating system, with references to an “rOS” being made in the beta version of iOS 16.
Little else has been disclosed about this headset, though it has been reported that the company is envisioning shorter bursts of entertainment with the product instead of turning it into an “all-day device,” and that it has no interest in outrunning its rivals in the race to the metaverse.
If all goes well, the company might indeed be able to launch the AR/VR headgear by this year, corroborating with some predictions.
