In September last year, IKEA revealed it would be collaborating with fellow Swedes, the Swedish House Mafia, on a collection that would focus on “music and creativity at home.”
Now, the home retailer has finally unveiled the first products from the partnership, including three new takes on its iconic FRAKTA bag.
In total, the collection will comprise over 20 furniture pieces, interior solutions, and accessories fit for aspiring DJs, music producers, and creatives of all kinds.
There’s been a recent rise in young people taking up music production, with many choosing to start out in makeshift studios from their own homes. In fact, according to a 2020 report published by Youth Music, in the UK, 67% of pre-teens and teenagers aged 7 to 17 said they were making music.
Wanting to serve this niche, Swedish House Mafia worked on the remixed versions of the FRAKTA bag from the viewpoint of a music creator, understanding the innate functional needs producers and fans require when creativity strikes anytime, anywhere.
Not only does it include a bag for cables, cords, and other gadgets, but the collection also comes with an additional laptop bag, and an even larger carryall for your favorite vinyl records—because there’s no way you’ll go on an adventure without lugging them around.
“FRAKTA is one of those IKEA classics that everyone has. We wanted to do our take on it from a music creation perspective depending on what type of gear you carry with you on the go,” explained Swedish House Mafia.
“Our different takes on the bag are themes shared for the whole collection. All items in the collection have a timeless theme with a distinct trace of our DNA,” they added.
