TikTok Is Now Letting You Limit Your Infinite Scrolling

If you have ever found yourself opening the TikTok app with the sun still up, only to find yourself still on it after the sun has set, you are not alone. Heading onto the app is like heading into the twilight zone—time stands still and yet speeds up entirely. The endless scrolling pulls you in with the promise of infinite entertainment.
As much as you might try to control yourself, often, the ability to access so many different types of videos is enticing as it is disruptive. TikTok, having heard the cries of the people, has now released a way to limit your hours. Set to roll out in the coming weeks, the feature comprises a timer that can be set to notify you of how long you have spent scrolling.
Choosing between 40,60, 100, and 120 minutes, your infinite scrolling can now be finite.
There will also be a dashboard for you to view a collection of the data on your time spent on TikTok, from daily and nightly averages to the number of times the app is launched, providing a much-needed wake-up call.
Users between the ages of 13 to 17 will also be prompted when their screen time goes over the 100-minute mark—even if they have not set the timer. They will be duly reminded that they can set a limit if they wish.
Social media users have continuously pushed pressure onto big companies to find ways to help limit the usage of the apps, especially on TikTok, where you can get so lost in the scrolling and instant gratification of having new videos pop up. With this new addition, hopefully, all of us can find a way out of the darkness of infinite scrolling and strike a balance between our online and offline lives.
