Microsoft Announces It Will Officially Disclose Pay For Greater Job Transparency
By Alexa Heah, 10 Jun 2022
In a big step forward for job equality and transparency, Microsoft has announced new changes to its workplace policies and, most significantly, that it will now disclose pay for all jobs.
This comes as the company has listened to and evaluated employees’ concerns, following policy changes to invest more in mental health resources for staff, anonymous surveys, the creation of the Racial Equity Initiative, and more.
As part of a press release, the company said it has been offering equal pay for equal work since 2014, and issues annual pay analyses and public pay data to hold itself accountable.
It has since banned the practice of asking applicants about their salary histories, and now, to go a step further, it has a commitment to publicly disclose salary ranges for all job postings across the US.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to foster a safer space for employees to voice their concerns, improve job mobility, such as by removing non-competition clauses from its employee agreements, and will undertake a civil rights audit of its workplace practices to ensure greater inclusivity.
“We believe these workforce initiatives are positive changes for our employees, and reflect our fundamental principle that people are the heart and soul of our company,” said Amy Pannoni, Deputy General Counsel of HR Legal for Corporate External and Legal Affairs.
Hopefully, these measures will be followed by other major corporations in the industry, so we can all move towards a better, more equitable job market in which all are valued on the same terms.
