YouTube Shorts Is Almost At TikTok Level—Here’s Why It’s Won Where Others Failed
By Nicole Rodrigues, 17 Jun 2022
TikTok has pioneered the way for short-form entertainment. With its bite-size videos and infinite scrolling—which could now be turning finite in a new update—there is no denying how much of a goldmine this format of videos has become.
While many have tried to replicate its formula and failed, like Facebook’s separate app Lasso, others may have stumbled upon the same sweet success that TikTok has. YouTube Shorts is one of those.
In a recent report, YouTube is celebrating the fact that it has garnered 1.5 billion users on its Shorts platform. This follows TikTok’s own similar celebration of a billion users in September.
It must be said that YouTube was able to harness such a number thanks to its already widely successful platform.
It also has the support of its content creators, many of whom have gone on to become household names, to utilize Shorts and bring their usual audience to it. This might just be where Facebook’s Lasso failed as it created a separate app that people found troublesome to download.
Though, as YouTube shortens its videos in TikTok’s footsteps, TikTok has lengthened its own to as long as 10 minutes.
