Bill Gates & Samsung Unveil Toilet That Sets Your Waste On Fire

The privilege of using a toilet is something many of us take for granted. However, many places around the world still do not have access to such basic necessities. In order to help solve these issues, Bill Gates and Samsung are working together to produce a new type of sanitation system that does not rely on water to clear out waste.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation began the ‘Reinvent the Toilet Challenge’ project in 2011, where it invited designers to submit new designs for alternative facilities.
The project seeks to find a solution to the sanitation issue plaguing a lot of the world. According to the United Nations, 3.6 billion people lack safe sanitation services and over 700,000 children pass away from diarrhea problems caused by polluted water.
In 2019, the organization chose Samsung to work on the initiative with, and the new joint venture set out to design the fiery bowl.
According to the tech company, the toilet takes solid waste, dehydrates it, and combusts it into ashes. Liquid waste, on the other hand, will be treated through a biological purification process.
Samsung notes that Gates is directly involved in the process as he met up with CEO Jay Lee earlier this month to discuss how to bring the lavatory to those in need.
The electronic goods brand is still in the process of finalizing the toilet before it is ready for use. However, once completed, Samsung is planning on turning the IP into a royalty-free license so that companies all over the world will be able to chip in and manufacture the facilities.
