Honda To Unleash 10 All-Electric Motorbikes, With Options For Low-Income Markets
By Mikelle Leow, 19 Sep 2022
It goes without saying that motorcycles greatly contribute to road emissions. This is more apparent in Asia, where the ratio of motorbikes to passenger cars in some countries can reach as high as 10.8 to one.
Honda, among the leading motorcycle manufacturers in the world, is looking to mitigate some of its impacts. The company has 10 versions of fully-electric motorcycles lined up to be released to the global market from 2022 to 2025 in hopes of reducing air pollution on the congested roads of Asian cities.
The first of the bikes is anticipated for rollout by the end of this year. Going forward, the lineup will even include options for cities where charging stations might be too inaccessible or expensive; for these, Honda is offering swappable battery packs. Interestingly, the company is considering engaging competing brands to boost the supply of battery packs, so more riders switch to electric bikes, Good News Network reports.
Five models with top speeds of 35 miles per hour will debut in parts of Asia and Europe from this year through 2024. All this will add to Honda’s goal of being carbon-neutral by 2040, as well as its vision to sell a million electric motorcycles by 2026.
