TikTok Finally Adds ‘Dislike’ Button That Lets You Oppose Comments… Discreetly
By Alexa Heah, 26 Sep 2022
If you spend as much time on TikTok as the rest of us, you’re probably no stranger to the platform’s messy comments section.
Among the memes, spammy remarks, and just plain confusing reactions—it’s often hard to gauge genuine sentiment or locate meaningful conversations for participation.
Thankfully, the social media site is finally rolling out its dislike button for comments to users all over the globe, so the algorithm has a better sense of which you’d prefer to see first—and what to (hopefully) hide from your feed forever.
TikTok began testing the feature in April, and has now updated the app to surface the ‘thumbs down’ icon on the right of the heart-shaped ‘like’ button on each comment.
“Earlier this year, we started to test a new way people could identify comments they believe to be irrelevant or inappropriate. After some testing, we’re releasing it globally,” the company announced in a tweet.
Don’t fret about offending anyone with your dislikes, as thumbs-down votes will not be public on the app, and commenters won’t be notified if anyone has reacted negatively to their comments.
Furthermore, there’ll be no score displaying how many times a particular comment has been disliked, and you can always change your mind and un-dislike it simply by tapping the same button again.
“We’ve created it as a new way to hear feedback directly from our community… our main priority with this feature is to create a better experience,” summed up the network.
