TikTok Introduces An Adults-Only Option For Livestreaming Content

The age range of users on major social networks tends to skew rather large, with TikTok not being an exception.
As such, the platform is planning to debut an adults-only option for its popular live streams, allowing content creators to restrict their shows to only fans above 18 years old.
In a blog post announcing the new policies, TikTok said this feature could be helpful for content better suited for adults, such as a comedy routine aimed at those over 18.
“Or, a host may plan to talk about a difficult life experience, and they would feel more comfortable knowing the conversation is limited to adults,” the social media site wrote.
Along with this, the site is increasing the minimum age required for users to host a live show. Currently, those above 16 can do so, but this will increase to those aged 18 and above from November 23, 2022.
While this change may cause a few raised eyebrows, as Gizmodo points out, it’s unlikely TikTok plans to go the route of OnlyFans, considering it does not allow any “nudity, pornography, or sexually explicit content” on the app. It’s unclear how all this will be moderated, though.
The platform hopes the updates will better protect its younger users and allow the community to enjoy its live-streaming content without compromising safety.
