First Gap, thenAdidas, and now Balenciaga—it seems none of Kanye West’s brand collaborations are going swimmingly at the moment.
The luxury fashion house has officially severed its ties with the rapper, with its parent company Kering announcing it will no longer be working on joint projects following a series of controversial public comments, the worst of which involved anti-Semitic threats.
In a response to WWD, the firm said it “has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist,” though it didn’t elaborate on what would happen to any launches currently in the works.
This decision comes shortly after West opened Balenciaga’s recent show at Paris Fashion Week, clad in a battle-esque outfit while trekking through the mud pit. His image from the day’s events has since been removed from the website.
For those out of the loop, West made headlines earlier last month when he donned a ‘White Lives Matter’ T-shirt, which the Anti-Defamation League noted was a supremacist phrase created in opposition of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Following that incident, the mogul took to Instagram and Twitter with an anti-Semitic rant, subsequently receiving a ban on both social media platforms. Latest rumors suggest he intends to buy over right-wing social media site Parler.
It’s unsurprising major brands have cut West off due to his antics, but with new plans to construct his own “universe” dubbed the ‘Yecosystem’, it’s probably not the last people will hear of him just yet.
