Museum of London Introduces World’s First Nightclub-In-Residence

Fabric, one of London’s most iconic nightlife scenes, has had a rough patch of late. The labyrinthine spot had been forced to close in 2016 after its license was revoked, and though it reopened again a year later, it had to shut down temporarily in the wake of the 2020 pandemic.
Now, hoping to preserve what’s left of the city’s nightlife, the Museum of London has announced the newly-renovated Fabric as the first-ever nightclub-in-residence. This will be the first in a series of partnerships the museum plans to take on to highlight different aspects of London culture.
Coincidentally, as per Artnet News, the museum and club will soon be located next to each other, when the former opens its doors at its new West Smithfield location in 2026.
To celebrate the beginning of the collaboration, Turner Prize-winning artist Tai Shani performed at the famed venue, letting visitors enjoy the dark chamber music that harkens to Smithfield’s storied past as one of the first execution sites in the city.
Next year, the museum plans to mark the 25th anniversary of Fabric with a special event, and hopes to curate a festival in 2025 around its new building, showing off the restored General Market together with music, art, and food inspired by London and all its people.
“As we embark on our exciting new journey, we are thrilled to join forces with Fabric—our soon-to-be neighbors and one of London’s most iconic cultural spaces. Our collaboration will create special moments for Londoners and visitors to the city,” said Sharon Ament, Director of the Museum of London.
