Banksy Reveals He’s In Ukraine With New Mural On Partially-Destroyed Building
By Alexa Heah, 14 Nov 2022
Famed street artist Banksy has unveiled his newest work in Borodyanka, Ukraine, where the mysterious maestro illustrated an image of a woman—appearing to be a gymnast—flipping herself over on her hands, with the building’s rubble acting as the pommel horse.
The artist himself posted images of the poignant piece to Instagram, attracting over two million likes so far. Interestingly, in the wider photographs of the building, the painting of the woman nearly blends into its surroundings, having been colored in similar gray tones to the ruins.
According to ARTnews, another image—one of a small boy trouncing a much larger man—has been attributed to Banksy, although he has yet to confirm it is one of his works officially. The work was spray-painted onto a cracked wall in the same Ukrainian city, and looks similar to most of the artist’s other creations.
Users on social media have speculated that other drawings, including one of a girl dancing with a ribbon and two children riding on a see-saw, could have been left behind by the artist as well, who is known to often pop up at locations of controversies and disputes.
For example, as per the publication, Banksy spray-painted a drawing on Israel’s separation barrier in the West Bank, and even took to creating murals in Calais, France, a city migrants often pass through as they make their way to the United Kingdom.
