Ah, Spotify Wrapped, one of the most important cultural moments of the year. Previously, the streaming service hired a psychic to channel users’ audio aura, revealing the top moods that defined an entire year of listening.
This time, the streamer has analyzed users’ personalities, coming up with its own take on the Myers-Briggs personality spectrum to segment over 400 million active users. There are eight letters across four sections, resulting in a final result that represents one of 16 possible personalities.
Firstly, users are typed with either Familiarity (F) or Exploration (E), depending on their tendency to listen to their favorite artists over and over or explore new ones.
Next comes Loyalty (L) versus Variety (V), in which Spotify notes if you often revisit the same track or aren’t much of a looper.
Then, it’s timelessness (T) or newness (N), which, as the names imply, determines if a user often listens to brand-new releases or backtracks through many decades of songs.
Last but not least, it’s commonality (C) vs uniqueness (U), based on the most popular artists or lesser-known ones.
“Your Listening Personality is a new feature that not only tells you about the music you listen to but what that says about your music taste—bringing a whole new layer of personalization and insight to the entire Wrapped experience,” Spotify explained.
Are you an Early Adopter (ENVC), a listener who has their pulse on new music and is the first to add a viral song to their playlist? Or The Devotee (ENLU), an ardent fan that listens to an artist’s entire discography?
There’s even the Maverick (ETLU), someone who stays out of the mainstream in their own indie world, and The Specialist (FNVU), who’s selective with the music and artists they listen to, and goes all in.
Personalities aside, Spotify has also presented users with their ‘Audio Day’, charting how the type of music they listen to changes over the course of the day. A different mood is assigned to the morning, afternoon, and evening, so you can tell if you end your day on a high note or a melancholic one.
