Android’s Top Apps Of 2022 Are Led By An AI Art Generator, Of Course
By Mikelle Leow, 02 Dec 2022
Arguably the biggest innovation to have altered the digital consumer’s way of life, and turned the art world on its head, this year is the wave of art-generating bots by the likes of DALL-E. Previously a privilege for tech pros, the tools began being placed directly into users’ hands in the later leg of the year. There probably isn’t a day that goes by when you haven’t caught sight of one of these instant artworks.
So it comes as no surprise that an AI art generator is the best overall app on the Play Store in 2022, as recognized by Google. Apps like Dream by WOMBO spell a future where people won’t need to know how to work a paintbrush to make fascinating art. With just a few clear words, you can tell artificial intelligence what to create and it’ll surprise you.
The crowd favorite, though, is the wildly popular “anti-Instagram,” BeReal, which was also hailed as Apple’s iPhone app of the year.
Concluding the year on a meaningful note is the Play Store’s “best app for good,” The STIGMA App, which offers a safe space for misunderstood individuals to seek comfort in one another.

Best overall app of 2022: Dream by WOMBO
Anyone with a smartphone can now generate art—no technical knowledge needed. With Dream by WOMBO, it’s as simple as entering a text prompt, selecting an art style, and waiting a few seconds for a unique “painting” to be created.
Users’ choice: BeReal
BeReal doesn’t have all the colorful features of Instagram—and that’s what makes it so special. Each day, the social network sends out an alert at a randomized time for everyone to take a photo within two minutes. Both front and rear cameras are activated, but no filters are allowed. The spontaneity forces users to stay authentic.
Best app for fun: PetStar
Here’s one for the pawrents. PetStar lets you create music videos starring your furkids, even if they can’t meow on tune or if they literally have two left feet. With this app, they’ll be singing and dancing away in TikTok-viral-worthy clips.
Best app for personal growth: Breathwrk
One thing people often tell you when you’re feeling stressed out is to take a deep breath. Breathwrk is all about that. It guides you through quick, science-backed breathing exercises designed to alleviate stress and anxiety, improve endurance, give you energy, and help you fall asleep. Easy breezy.
Best app for everyday essentials: Plant Parent
Anyone can have green thumbs with the Plant Parent app, which covers everything to keep your plants thriving. Users can take a picture and have the tool identify a plant in the photo, set calendars and reminders to care for their plants, and get illnesses that their plant babies might be encountering assessed.
Best app for good: The STIGMA App
Last and certainly not least, STIGMA is a safe mental health space for users to confide in one another over misunderstood conditions. The app includes stories of others who may have gone through something you are experiencing now, validating that someone understands. Users may also send or receive kind words within the community via text message, audio, or asynchronous video.
