McDonald’s Opens Drive-Thru School To Teach Nervy Drivers How To Pick Up Orders

The reward you get for learning to drive is the convenience—it’s much easier to pick up groceries when you have a car, for example. And while driving schools have taught students aplenty on how to handle these errand runs, from giving pedestrians right of way to parallel parking, little is shared about tackling the tight lanes of drive-thrus. This means, as accessible as drive-thrus are, they’re not exactly beginner-friendly.
McDonald’s UAE wants novice drivers to confidently pick up their orders as soon as learn how to drive, so it’s teamed up with Emirates Driving Institute, a prominent driving school in Dubai and the Middle East, with help by advertising agency Studio M to open the world’s first ‘Drive-Thru School’.
A life-size simulation of a McDonald’s drive-thru was installed within the practice circuit of the institute, incorporating drive-thru skills into the curriculum of driving lessons.
Instructors taught learners how to properly swerve into such small lanes, as well as stop their cars and control their speeds, before placing their orders with an actual McDonald’s employee behind the counter.
After successfully completing this highly applicable obstacle course, students were awarded with a Drive-Thru license.
The use of drive-thru lanes became all the more relevant during the pandemic, so McDonald’s UAE deems effortlessly navigating one to be an important life skill.
The fast-food chain intends to revive its drive-thru lessons in 2023.
