Nike Waffles Will Give Sneakerheads A New, Yummy Reason To Sprint In Line
By Mikelle Leow, 20 Dec 2022
It’s not every day you get so hungry, you could eat a shoe. This prospect, though, will be a possibility for the rest of the month. A joint in Tokyo is serving not Nike Waffle footwear, but Nike footwear waffles.
You read that right. This food for the sole comes straight from Japanese luxury brand Sacai, which is known for co-creating sneakers like the Waffle Racer, LDWaffles, and VaporWaffles with Nike… you see where it got its inspiration from. The waffles—the real, edible ones—are poised to make tables at Tokyo Burnside, a popup restaurant space in Harajuku, with authorization by Nike and a menu overseen by the famed Ghetto Gastro.
The fan-favorite brunch items, each shaped like the sole of a sneaker and stamped with the iconic Swoosh, will delight the taste buds of savory and sweet tooths alike. There’s ‘Strawberry Haze’, which is served with strawberries and a scoop of coconut ice cream; ‘Black Power’, which pairs a black chocolate waffle with plantain ice cream; ‘Chicken Coup’, consisting of fried chicken with a matcha waffle and salad greens; and ‘Triple C’, made up of a corn waffle, crab salad, and—drum roll please—caviar.
And although you won’t normally have to worry about the exact ingredients that go into sneakers, you’ll probably be relieved to know that all the waffles are gluten-free. The breakfast treats will be served alongside coffee and matcha beverages supplied by Blue Bottle Coffee and Rocky’s Matcha.
Sacai GASTRO, as the venue is called, will also retail eye candy like T-shirts and totes from Sacai and Ghetto Gastro’s own Wavy waffle and pancake mix brand.
As with many sneaker releases, the waffles are a limited drop. They’ll be available at the popup location from December 24 to 30. Time to step up your breakfast game, sneakerheads.
