Citizen Debuts ‘Avatar’ Watches With An Earth-Friendly Focus

Avatar: The Way of Water introduces a new oceanic clan. Keeping time with the long-awaited release of the film, Citizen has presented three inspired watches that aren’t just aptly water-resistant, but they’re also powered by its Eco-Drive light technology, another nod to the nature-loving Avatar ethos.
The series brings three designs—one is unisex, one is billed for men, and one is described as a ladies’ timepiece.
The Unisex Avatar Pandora Wave watch is the selection’s most vibrant, portraying a landscape of Pandora with a captivating sunset, lush mountain, and the deep-blue ocean and reef where the tribe live. The piece, constructed from stainless steel, features a silver sunray dial with a blue outer ring, as well as a sustainable brown leather strap, according to Forbes. The unisex version has water resistance of up to 100 meters (328 feet).
At the heart of the men’s Avatar Wave watch, inspired by diving, is a Leonopteryx, a marine creature used for transport in the movie. Its form is stretched out across the three-hand dial, and surrounding the creature is a turquoise ring reminiscent of splashing waves. The stainless steel watch, which also has luminescent hands, displays the date and dual time zones, and can survive water depths of up to 100 meters (328 feet).
Lastly, the ladies’ Avatar Tree of Souls piece pays homage to the Tree of Soul, the closest alliance to Eywa on Pandora. Mirroring the variation for men, the willow tree is spread across the three-hand dial. The watch is adorned with crystal markers and luminous hands, and it arrives in a Black IP stainless steel case with a black leather strap. This version can withstand water of up to 50 meters (164 feet).
Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive system translates any kind of light, including the fluorescent bulbs in your home and dim lighting, into power for its timepieces. The technology ensures you will never have to replace your watch’s battery.
The ladies’ watch is priced at US$295, while the unisex and men’s variants will set you back for US$325 each.
