Safety Backpack Deploys An Airbag To Protect You From Falling Off Your Bike

With more and more people switching from driving cars to riding bicycles and e-bikes, there has been an influx of cyclists hitting the roads in recent years. With the number of riders set to be driven even higher as time goes on and climate change concerns deepen, the safety of a cyclist out on the roads has been put at the forefront of In&Motion’s mind.
In&Motion is a company that devices smart safety gear. Its incoming product is an innovative way to keep riders safe by placing a deployable airbag into a backpack.
The STAN backpack looks like your run-of-the-mill rucksack and, for the most part, even functions like one. It can hold your laptop, water bottle, chargers, phone, and anything else you need to bring along with you.
What sets it apart from other bags is that in the case of a fall while on your bicycle, an airbag will be released from within the backpack to protect your head, neck, and chest. The airbag covers the top of the head of the user and down the front of their chest, engulfing them in what looks like a white rubber cloud. In fact, In&Motion claims that it will help reduce the risk of head trauma by 80% thanks to the fact that it can be deployed in 0.1 seconds.
Pretty handy, considering that the time it takes for someone to fall off their bike can happen in the blink of an eye.
And just in case you get into a nasty scrape, you can hook your smartphone up to a dedicated app that helps call the authorities once it detects a fall if you cannot do so yourself.
Ultimately, there could be a lot of benefits to the bag for even just regular pedestrians who live in traffic-heavy areas or even motorcyclists.
In&Motion is still in the midst of testing the STAN airbag out, though it is offering cyclists the chance to test-run them.
