Ryan Reynolds Enlists ChatGPT To Craft An Ad Mirroring His Style
By Mikelle Leow, 11 Jan 2023
When Ryan Reynolds burst into the advertising sphere, he amazed others with a charm and comedic delivery thought to be inimitable. Well, inimitable only by humans, as it turns out.
In the spirit of saving money, Reynolds tapped oChatGPT’s artificially brilliant brain to create an advertisement for Mint Mobile, of which he’s an owner. ChatGPT is a newcomer to the burgeoning AI generation world, and it’s already one of the most popular additions. You give the model a text prompt and it responds with an entire body of copy made from scratch, within seconds.
One of the biggest draws to ChatGPT is that it’s completely free for the public to use, with no limits to the number of prompts you send it. This means Mint Mobile kept its content creation budget for the commercial to a grand total of zero dollars.
The AI tool was briefed to write a Mint Mobile commercial “in the voice of Ryan Reynolds.” The script had to include a joke, a curse word, and a mention that the company’s holiday promo is still applicable despite Big Wireless firms having ended theirs.
Here’s what it has come up with.
“Hey, it’s Ryan Reynolds here” (a line that spooks the actor out).
“First of all, let me just say Mint Mobile is the s**t, but here’s the thing. All the Big Wireless companies out there are ending their holiday promos, but not Mint Mobile.” ChatGPT goes on to say that the brand is “keeping the party going ’cause we’re just that damn good.”
The AI has even seized the chance to show off its business chops by throwing in an “added bonus”:
“If you sign up now, you’ll get to hear [Reynold’s] voice every time you call customer service,” writes ChatGPT, though it stops itself and asserts it is just teasing—and that the perk is “not really a thing.” It’s really difficult to tell when a robot is being sarcastic.
Reynolds, the real one, thinks the whole thing is “mildly terrifying” but “compelling.”
And that’s that. You can officially have your own mini “Ryan Reynolds” at your next brainstorming session.
