High-Speed Electric Bullet Train To Connect Los Angeles & Las Vegas
By Nicole Rodrigues, 07 Mar 2023
The nation’s first high-speed rail connecting Las Vegas to Los Angeles is on track to be ready by 2027. The new transport system will be completely electric and will span a distance of 218 miles.
A typical road trip between the two cities will take an average of four hours. However, with the new train traveling at a speedy 200 mph, that time will now be reduced to just over an hour.
The project is spearheaded by Brightline rail company after it reached an agreement with the High-Speed Rail Labor Coalition—an organization of 13 unions. According to Interesting Engineering, Brightline is the only private provider of modern, sustainable intercity train networks. It has stations in Miami, Aventura, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach, Florida.
Besides cutting down the time between the states, the venture will also attract 12 million of the 50 million one-way trips made by bus or car into Nevada each year. With that, 400,000 tons of CO2 will be removed, making it one of the greenest forms of travel in the country, as per the company. Taking an economic outlook on the proposal, the company notes that the railway will also create 10,000 permanent roles and 35,000 jobs during construction.
Brightline is looking to break ground in Las Vegas sometime this year and estimates a total of four years for completion if all goes well. Once it is up and running, the network will have stations at the Las Vegas Strip, Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, and Hesperia, California.
