German-based Beck’s new Autonomous beer has done what no other drink has before: create itself.

In celebration of the brand’s 150-year history, it has taken a futuristic step into the new frontier of artificial intelligence by allowing machines such as ChatGPT and Midjourney to forge an all-new beer for its range.

The systems were employed to dream up a new recipe for the beer, where they studied millions of different flavor combinations before finally settling on a final concoction. The AI even coined the name ‘Beck’s Autonomous’, just to make this whole thing even more meta.

After which, the models designed a conceptual can that looks like something you would find in an industrial steampunk future. The machines were even tasked in providing a marketing campaign to show the drink off.

Lastly, they whipped up a microsite where eager fans can register in anticipation of the beer’s release. The brand will only make 450 special edition cans coming to the UK, Germany, and Italy on April 12.

According to The Drum, Laura Salway, Beck’s Marketing Director, was inspired by this new spark in the AI sector and decided to test the waters. However, Salway does state that with all the surrounding debate on the technology, there is no way for the company to know how people would feel about such an endeavor. Nevertheless, that did not stop it from experimenting with a way to “touch, taste, and hold artificial intelligence.”
