Mermaid Explains Bacterial Vaginosis To Human Women Who Don’t Have Fishy Tails
By Mikelle Leow, 13 Apr 2023
The area down under isn’t always supposed to smell like the sea. But if it does, it’s a sign that you could have bacterial vaginosis.
Leave it to this sassy mythical creature, head-hunted by intimate health product brand Gyno-Canesbalance and creative agency LOLA MullenLowe, to highlight the symptoms to you. As someone with the tail of a fish, this mermaid knows better than anyone what it’s like to naturally smell fishy.
In the spot, the mermaid—who has a surprising reservoir of knowledge about anatomy on land—reminds humans not to feel self-conscious about the signs of bacterial vaginosis, or vaginal flora imbalance, and to open up about them. After all, the condition can easily be treated.
In a statement, the agency explains that the campaign uses “uninhibited” humor and wit to educate women on the symptoms of vaginal flora imbalance and encourage them to actively engage in conversation about feminine care.
The amusing and enlightening advertisement is set to make a splash in parts of Europe.
