JW Anderson Recreates Lady Diana’s Young Children’s Frog Boots For Grownup Feet
By Mikelle Leow, 19 Apr 2023
First, there were Crocs. Now, there are Frogs.
JW Anderson is making webbed feet a thing for humans with quirky, amphibian-inspired footwear, in collaboration with kids’ rain boot brand Wellipets. The slip-ons first turned heads at the designer’s Fall/Winter 2023 menswear show, and they’re now hopping into retail.
Going even further back, the froggy shoes previously leaped into tabloids when Princess Diana dressed young princes William and Harry in character wellingtons in the 1980s.
The cultural moment croaked out a response from JW Anderson, who has transformed the look into adult-size slides.
The nostalgic loafers, crafted with waterproof material, feature the iconic bulging eyes of the classic boots, along with hand-painted details on the mouth.
Their removable cushioned insoles are finished with Italian suede leather.
Available in cheerful green, yellow, and blue, these frog clogs remind the young at heart to splash in a puddle now and then.
The ribbeting pairs will reach JW Anderson and Wellipets stores on April 20.
Let the record show that we’re calling these Croak Monsieurs.
