Adidas & Nat Geo Team Up To Bring Functional Wear Inspired By Nature Photography
By Alexa Heah, 21 Apr 2023
Love snapping pictures while on a trek in the woods? Adidas Terrex recently announced a special collaboration with National Geographic to offer adventurers high-performance outfits for greater exploration.
The multi-season partnership centers on a “shared appreciation for nature,” and hopes to encourage fans to spend more time connecting with the world around them. Its inaugural launch celebrates the role of photography in the wild.
Touching on this special relationship between the camera and nature, designers at Adidas Terrex combed through the photography archives at National Geographic, finding stills of some of the most beautiful, remote, and unique places on Earth.
These same prints, such as a snow-covered sandstone monocline in Utah and textured portraits of shale captured in Norway, have been incorporated into each item on offer, with the collection placing a special focus on hiking.
In total, fans can choose from 51 pieces in the vast launch, ranging from women’s to men’s and gender-neutral items—all of which are built to protect hikers in multi-terrain environments.
Highlights include the RAIN.RDY Jacket, a seam-sealed top layer with bold prints. The men’s version features the shell formations in the Porsanger Peninsula in Norway, while the women’s depict White Sands National Park in New Mexico.
Of course, appearance aside, the outer layer is just as functional as it is chic. Each jacket comes with harness-compatible pockets, pre-shaped sleeves, and even a stowaway hood with a wire brim to keep trekkers dry on rainy days.
“Nature is special beyond words. It allows us to become more inspired, more present, more conscious, more human,” said Nadia Svensson, Senior Product Director BU Outdoor.
“This collaboration celebrates nature through beautiful photographs—abstract colorful ecosystems told from above—revealing incredible stories about the Earth. It is born from, and built for, exploration of the natural world around us.”
The full collection will be available online from April 28, 2023.
