McDonald’s Designed A Takeout Box That Unfolds Into An Outdoor Table

No food screams convenience like fast food. McDonald’s, whose restaurants reach far-flung corners of the world, has taken this concept to the outdoors with makeshift furniture converted from cardboard packaging.
For Milan Design Week late last year, the fast-food giant paired up with advertising agency Leo Burnett to help accommodate 400,000 design enthusiasts who would likely not have space for a meal. Their solution was the ‘TableBag’, a takeout box that transformed into an outdoor table. The project was recently picked up by The Dieline amid the ongoing, 2023 edition of the design festival.
The boxes, sized more like tote bags than food packaging, could be turned into tables once fixed onto specialized posts reading, “Let me be your table.”
Crafted to be shared, the cardboard tabletops had space for two burgers and two orders of fries, and they even came built in with a pair of cup holders.
The TableBags were 100% recyclable too, so customers could easily bring them to a recycle bin once they were done with their meals.
The boxes were handed out to select patrons who ordered via the McDonald’s app. Would you like some table with those fries?
