Balenciaga Creates Its Own ‘Animal Crossing’-Like Game On Regenerative Farming
By Nicole Rodrigues, 26 Apr 2023
Balenciaga might be a fashion label that turns heads with its out-of-the-box designs, but who would have thought it would also be able to teach you about regenerative agriculture?
This Earth Day, the brand has released an augmented reality game called the Balenciaga Regenerative Agriculture Experience, in which players will learn the way of the land by playing an Animal Crossing-inspired game to educate people about the cultivation process.
The game is accessible for free on mobile devices, where a farmer will take you through your plot of land, and show you how to grow your own ecosystem. You will even receive tips at the same time about maintaining sustainable soil health in the real world. In addition, you will be taught about intercropping, crop rotation, composting, and dealing with agricultural waste, all through the lens of augmented reality.
The game is part of a larger initiative dedicated to regenerative agriculture, as the brand has invested in a technological system known as eDNA that can monitor biodiversity and environmental DNA. The project works with farmers, landowners, and companies to recognize the needs of their land and help them visualize a more healthy ecosystem.
Ultimately, eDNA is working towards balancing the ecological network of Occitanie in France alongside other organizations such as Epiterre, Regenerative Fund for Nature.
