Victoria’s Secret runways were paused in 2019 after controversies surrounding the brand had the fashion show closing its curtains. And its hiatus is about to end as a revamped version takes to the stage again.
The show ended after remarks made against the transgender community by Les Wexner, the CEO of the lingerie company’s owner L Brands. That, coupled with long-time links between Wexner and Epstein and the continued body image issues the brand imposed on women and young girls, called for a much-needed end and rework of the branding moving forward into the future.
Since then, Victoria’s Secret has done much to rethink the messages it sends out and has begun incorporating a more diverse set of models into its lineup.
Nevertheless, it’s back once again, and this time as a movie. The feature film, The Victoria’s Secret World Tour, is a documentary that reimagines the classic runway show that combines fashion, art, and culture. It will also introduce the VS20, a group of 20 international creatives producing collections based around cities such as Bogotá, Colombia; Lagos, Nigeria; London; and Tokyo.
According to WWD, the film will aim to convey the brand’s transformation over the last few years as it returns to its history and what made it iconic. It will also culminate in a live fashion event, though it might differ from the Victoria’s Secret show the public has become familiar with.
