IKEA To Tote 19-Foot FRAKTA Bag Around Cities In The US
By Mikelle Leow, 09 Jun 2023
IKEA’s quintessential blue bag has taken on myriad forms, inspiring the creation of everything from keychains to dog couture.
However, its latest incarnation might be its largest yet. On June 17, IKEA will install a 19-foot statue of its iconic FRAKTA bag at Chicago’s Millennium Park.
Like the spacious carrier, this mammoth sculpture will be well-appreciated for its functionality. It will be dotted with QR codes that, when activated, trigger an augmented-reality animation on people’s phones that depicts IKEA products flying out of the bag. Following after, onlookers will be led to unlock exclusive deals.
The larger-than-life experience is powered by Adobe’s new Aero Geospatial system, which intertwines 3D AR experiences with geolocation technology to transport them to the real world.
The takeover was initially intended to commence at New York City’s Madison Square Park on June 10, but the “hazardous” air quality generated from the fires in California have stalled plans, Marketing Dive reports.
As such, the 19-foot FRAKTA will first head to Chicago on June 17, before moving on to Houston on June 24, and finally making a stop at NYC when the air clears up.
