Wes Anderson Doesn’t Care For The Memes His Films Inspired

To loosely quote the internet-viral trend, you better not act like your videos are Wes Anderson films.
The filmmaker’s dreamy aesthetics have inspired many fan-made creations of late, including a ‘Wes Anderson Challenge’ on TikTok and mashups generated with artificial intelligence. They were so enticing to watch and emulate that even the cast of Anderson’s latest movie, Asteroid City, recreated their own versions.

It seems like everybody is on board. Well, everybody but one person: Wes Anderson himself.
Telling The Times newspaper in an interview, Anderson disclosed that he shields himself from watching all those memes to protect himself from second-guessing his style.
Anderson said he refrains from seeing fan creations as he’ll end up wondering: “Is that what I do? Is that what I mean?”
He also urged audiences not to “send me things of people doing me,” and if someone does, he’ll “immediately erase” the message.
